The British School of Thessaloniki Celebrates Successful Launch Event Ahead of September Opening

The British School of Thessaloniki (BST) welcomed families, community leaders, educators and distinguished guests to a special launch event recently celebrating the school’s forthcoming opening in September 2026.

Set to welcome children aged 4 to 11, BST will offer an exceptional British primary education in the heart of Thessaloniki. The launch party provided an opportunity for prospective families and those already enrolled to explore the school’s state-of-the-art facilities, meet the leadership team, and learn more about the school’s educational vision.

The event brought together a vibrant mix of guests from politics, local government, education, and business, alongside parents, families, children, friends of the school, journalists, and digital content creators. Throughout the evening, attendees enjoyed guided tours of the campus and gained firsthand insight into the philosophy that will underpin the BST educational experience.

At the heart of that vision is Founding Headteacher Thomas Moudiotis, an experienced educator who was born and raised in Thessaloniki before spending the past 14 years working in leading British primary schools in England. His return to his home city to establish a new British school marks an exciting milestone for both the school and the wider educational community.

During the ceremony, welcome addresses were delivered by:

  • Thomas Moudiotis, Headteacher of The British School of Thessaloniki
  • Marianna Poufti Iordanidou and Athanasios Iordanidis, Co-founders of the school
  • John Forsyth, Founder and CEO of Forfar Education
  • Theodoros Angelidis, Deputy Regional Governor for Voluntarism and Youth
  • Eleni Giannoudi, Deputy Mayor for Employment, Social Protection – Solidarity, Education and Lifelong Learning of the Municipality of Pylaia-Chortiatis
  • Maria Tsakali, Honorary Consul of the United Kingdom in Thessaloniki

Speakers highlighted the significance of introducing a new British school to Thessaloniki and the important role BST will play in expanding educational opportunities for local and international families. They also spoke of the school’s potential contribution to the city’s continued educational, cultural and economic development.

The occasion was further honoured by the presence of several distinguished guests, including Konstantinos Gioulekas, Deputy Minister of Interior (Sector of Macedonia-Thrace), Christos Mittas, Deputy Regional Governor for Culture and Sports, and Dimitris Skoutas, Deputy Mayor for Social Policy of Thessaloniki, among other official representatives.

A traditional Agiasmos blessing ceremony and ribbon cutting marked the formal opening celebrations before guests were invited to tour the campus. Visitors explored the school’s modern learning environments and discovered more about the curriculum, which is based on the English National Curriculum, combining academic excellence with creativity, critical thinking and the holistic development of every child.

The evening concluded with a festive celebration inspired by British culture. Guests enjoyed themed catering and refreshments, while a live string quartet provided entertainment throughout the event. Children also took part in a range of creative activities led by professional entertainers, ensuring a memorable experience for families of all ages.

As the countdown to September begins, the successful launch event reflected the excitement and anticipation surrounding the opening of The British School of Thessaloniki. With a clear vision, outstanding facilities and a commitment to nurturing confident, curious and compassionate young learners, BST is looking forward to welcoming its first pupils and beginning an exciting new chapter in education for Thessaloniki.
