In Reception and Year 1, children follow a carefully planned curriculum that combines the EYFS and English National Curriculum.

Through a balance of play, exploration and structured teaching, pupils develop strong foundations for future learning in a nurturing and engaging environment.

Areas of learning and development

The EYFS curriculum is built around seven areas of learning and development:

  • Communication and Language – developing speaking, listening and vocabulary skills.
  • Personal, Social and Emotional Development – building confidence, resilience, independence and positive relationships.
  • Physical Development – developing coordination, movement and fine motor skills.
  • Literacy – introducing reading through phonics and developing early writing skills.
  • Mathematics – building number sense, problem-solving and mathematical understanding.
  • Understanding the World – exploring people, communities, nature, science and different cultures.
  • Expressive Arts and Design – encouraging creativity through art, music, dance, construction and imaginative play.

These areas are woven together through engaging topics, practical experiences and meaningful learning opportunities that inspire curiosity, creativity and a lifelong love of learning.

Year 2 – 6

Building strong foundations

In Years 2 – 6 children follow a broad and engaging curriculum that builds on the foundations established in the early years while encouraging greater independence, curiosity and critical thinking. Learning is carefully structured to ensure pupils develop strong core skills alongside a wider understanding of the world around them.

Through a combination of high-quality teaching, practical experiences and cross-curricular learning, pupils develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed for the next stage of their educational journey.
