Greater independence, confidence and responsibility
Years 4, 5 and 6 are an important stage in a child’s educational journey, as pupils develop greater independence, confidence and responsibility in their learning. Through high expectations, personalised support and engaging lessons, every child is encouraged to achieve their full potential in a nurturing and inclusive environment.
Our approach ensures pupils feel valued, challenged and inspired as they build strong academic foundations, deepen their understanding across the curriculum and prepare for the transition to senior school.
In Lime class, we celebrate every child’s strengths and believe that with the right support, challenge and encouragement, every pupil can achieve more than they ever thought possible.
Specialist teaching, music & sport
As pupils progress through Years 4, 5 and 6, they benefit from a broad and challenging curriculum, complemented by specialist teaching in Music and Physical Education. These lessons help children refine their skills, build confidence and explore their interests as they prepare for the next stage of their education.
Music
Music remains an important part of school life, with weekly lessons developing pupils’ creativity, musical understanding and performance skills. Throughout the year, children have opportunities to perform in sharing assemblies, winter and summer concerts, and may take part in the school orchestra and choir. Additional opportunities are available through drama, ballet and other performing arts clubs.
Physical
Physical activity plays a key role in supporting pupils’ wellbeing and development. Through regular PE lessons and a wide range of after-school clubs, children can participate in activities such as athletics, football, dance, swimming, kung fu, cardio fitness and outdoor games. These experiences help pupils develop teamwork, resilience, leadership and a lifelong appreciation for healthy, active lifestyles.
Outdoor learning and educational visits
Outdoor learning and real-world experiences continue to enrich the curriculum throughout Years 4, 5 and 6. Wherever possible, pupils extend their learning beyond the classroom through practical investigations, fieldwork, scientific enquiries, creative projects and collaborative challenges that deepen their understanding of key concepts.
Our curriculum is further enhanced by educational visits, workshops and local field trips, helping pupils make meaningful connections between their studies and the wider world. These experiences encourage curiosity, independence, critical thinking and problem-solving, while supporting children as they grow into confident, capable and globally minded learners.
