Challenge, discovery and progress

In our mixed Year 2 and Year 3 class, learning is carefully tailored to meet the needs of children at different stages of development, ensuring every pupil is challenged, engaged and supported to make excellent progress. Learning extends beyond the classroom through educational visits, practical activities and hands-on experiences that enrich the curriculum, deepen understanding and bring topics to life.

Ambitious, curious and resilient

In our Year 2 and Year 3 class at BST, we encourage children to be ambitious, curious and resilient learners. By combining high academic expectations with memorable learning experiences, we help every child develop the confidence to achieve their very best.

Specialist teaching

Children in Years 2 and 3 benefit from a broad and engaging curriculum, complemented by specialist teaching in Music and Physical Education. These lessons help pupils develop new skills, build confidence and discover new interests beyond the classroom.

Music

+ + –

Music plays an important role in school life, with weekly music lessons helping children develop their creativity, performance skills and musical understanding. Throughout the year, pupils have opportunities to perform for families through sharing assemblies, winter and summer concerts, and may also take part in the school orchestra and choir. Further opportunities are available through drama, ballet and other performing arts clubs.

Physical

+ + –

Physical activity is encouraged through regular PE lessons and a wide range of after-school sports clubs. Children can take part in activities including athletics, football, dance, swimming, kung fu, cardio fitness and outdoor games, helping them develop teamwork, resilience, coordination and a lifelong enjoyment of sport and exercise.

Outdoor learning and trips

Outdoor learning is an important part of the Year 2 and Year 3 curriculum at the British School of Thessaloniki. Wherever possible, children extend their learning beyond the classroom through practical investigations, fieldwork, scientific enquiries, mathematical challenges and creative activities that bring the curriculum to life. Whether measuring the school grounds in mathematics, exploring habitats in science, sketching natural landscapes in art or developing teamwork through collaborative problem-solving, pupils apply their knowledge in meaningful, real-world contexts.

Our curriculum is further enriched by regular educational visits and local field trips, allowing children to make connections between their learning and the wider community. These experiences encourage curiosity, resilience, independence and critical thinking, while helping children develop a deeper understanding of the world around them.

Trips, visits & workshops

We believe learning is most meaningful when it is brought to life through real experiences. Children can expect to take part in educational visits, workshops and visitor experiences throughout the year, typically every six weeks. Carefully linked to classroom topics, these opportunities enrich learning, spark curiosity and help children make meaningful connections between their studies and the wider world.
