A Historic First Day as BST Opens Its Doors
Today marks a landmark moment in the history of education in Thessaloniki as the British School of Thessaloniki (BST) officially welcomed its first pupils through its doors for the very first time.
The inaugural day of term represents the culmination of months of planning, construction and anticipation. It brings to life the city’s first British primary school and a new chapter in international education for families across the region.
From Vision to Reality
The journey began in the spring when construction commenced on the school’s campus. As the foundations of the British School of Thessaloniki were laid, an ambitious vision started to take shape. A school has been created that combines the strengths of the British curriculum with a nurturing, innovative learning environment designed to inspire young learners.
Over the months that followed, the campus transformed rapidly into a vibrant educational setting ready to welcome its first pupils.
Building a Founding Team
Alongside the physical development of the school, BST focused on assembling a talented and dedicated team of educators and staff. During the summer, key appointments were made. This included the arrival of Founding Head, Thomas Moudiotis, who joined the school to lead its exciting development and establish its culture from day one.
Together with Deputy Head Faye Tsiamis and the wider founding staff team, preparations were put in place to ensure an exceptional start for pupils and families.
A Summer of Excitement and Preparation
Interest in the new school continued to grow throughout the summer months, with many families visiting the campus to view the developing facilities and learn more about BST’s vision for education in Thessaloniki.
A special opening ceremony held in July marked a significant milestone in the school’s journey. As summer progressed, work continued across the campus as classrooms were carefully prepared for the arrival of pupils. Furniture was installed, IT equipment and interactive whiteboards were fitted, books were unpacked and organised, and classrooms were stocked with the resources needed to create engaging and inspiring learning environments.
BST Welcomes Its First Pupils
The months of planning and preparation became a reality and today, founding families were welcomed to their new school.
From the moment the school gates opened this morning, excitement filled the campus as pupils arrived for their very first day. Children eagerly explored their new classrooms, met their teachers and classmates, and began what promises to be an extraordinary educational journey.
The atmosphere throughout the school has been one of enthusiasm, curiosity and celebration, with pupils and parents alike delighted to be part of this historic inaugural day.
A Special Moment for the BST Community
Reflecting on the significance of the occasion, Thomas Moudiotis, Founding Head of the British School of Thessaloniki, said:
“Today is a truly special day for everyone connected with BST. What began as a vision earlier this year has become a reality, and it has been wonderful to welcome our founding pupils and families into their new school. The enthusiasm and excitement we have seen today has been incredible, and we are immensely proud to be opening the first British primary school in Thessaloniki. This is just the beginning of what we know will be a remarkable journey for our school community.”
Deputy Head Faye Tsiamis added:
“There is something incredibly special about being part of a school’s very first day. The children have arrived full of confidence, curiosity and excitement, and it has been wonderful to see them embrace their new surroundings. We are looking forward to building a warm, ambitious and supportive school community where every child can flourish.”
Looking Ahead
With pupils now settled into their classrooms, the British School of Thessaloniki has officially begun its first academic year, marking the successful completion of an ambitious journey from concept to reality.
